Digit Car Insurance

An overview

Digit General Insurance, located in Bengaluru, is a private insurance firm launched in 2016. It was formerly called Oden, which means “at the top/ahead” in German. Oden General Insurance Limited was renamed Digit General Insurance Limited to make things easier. It is registered in two cities: Bengaluru and Pune. Digit General Insurance is a well-known online platform that offers its clients a broad variety of non-life general insurance products and services.

Digit General Insurance provides various forms of automobile insurance coverage, including third-party car insurance, standalone own-damage car insurance, and comprehensive car insurance. Aside from these policies, the company also provides personal accident insurance to reimburse policyholders in the event of an automobile accident that results in the death or incapacity of the owner. Digit General Insurance’s car insurance policies provide extensive coverage to the insured as well as services such as cashless repairs, doorstep picks up and repair, 24×7 customer support, hassle-free claim settlement, smartphone-enabled self-inspection facility, no claim bonus, customization of IDV, and so on.

To supplement coverage, the insurance offers its clients a variety of add-on covers such as zero depreciation cover, return to invoice cover, passenger cover, tire protection cover, breakdown help, consumable cover, and engine and gearbox protection cover. Furthermore, the general insurance firm seeks to make the automobile insurance procedure simpler and less stressful, as shown in its tagline “To Make Insurance Simple.” Digit General Insurance is reinventing vehicle insurance products and restructuring procedures with this purpose in mind.

Why is Car Insurance mandatory in India?

Unfortunately, when it comes to seemingly insignificant items like auto insurance, people prefer to disregard or forget about it till there is a penalty for not having it.

However, most of the time, these standards are created to ensure the general safety of people like you and me.

Consider this what if Third-Party Car Insurance was not required by law? In this situation, most individuals would not even have one, and in the event of an accident, both parties would drown in pointless discussions and, of course, heaps of expenditures!

As a result, while the basic goal of automobile insurance is to cover an affected party in the event of a mistake or accident, there are other reasons why car insurance has been made required in India.

A large Number of Road Accidents: Road accidents are quite prevalent in India, and this is one of the key reasons why the Motor Vehicle Act makes vehicle insurance necessary. In 2017, there were over 1200 injuries recorded on a daily basis as a result of traffic accidents! An automobile insurance policy will ensure that no one bears the financial burden in such a case.

Protects the Third-Party: Whether you collide with someone’s vehicle or a car collides with your beloved vehicle, having at least third-party car insurance in place will ensure that the affected third party is reimbursed for car damages or personal damages.

Legal Processes Are Made Easier: When an accident occurs, it is the legal procedure that consumes one’s time and energy more than the damages. Legal formalities, on the other hand, are taken care of when you have legitimate automobile insurance.

List of best Car Insurance Products from Digit Car Insurance

Third Party Liability Only Car Insurance Policy

One of the most prevalent forms of automobile insurance is third-party car insurance, which covers only damages and losses caused to a third-party person, vehicle, or property.

Comprehensive Car Insurance Policy

Comprehensive car insurance is one of the most beneficial forms of car insurance since it covers both third-party liability and damages to your own vehicle.

What Is the Difference Between Comprehensive and Third-Party Insurance?

The primary distinction between third-party and comprehensive insurance is the type of coverage provided. While third-party insurance only protects you against third-party damages and losses, comprehensive automobile insurance protects you against your own.

In India, choosing the correct type of automobile insurance is critical. After all, obtaining basic insurance that protects third parties is required by law. Not possessing one might result in fines for traffic offences and potentially the suspension of your driver’s license!

To protect yourself from hefty fines as well as damages and losses caused by mishaps both large and small such as accidents, collisions, floods, theft, and so on, it’s critical to understand the difference between comprehensive car insurance and third-party car insurance and to decide which is best for you and your car.

Digit Car Insurance with Add-On Covers:

Zero Depreciation insurance (also known as bumper-to-bumper or parts depreciation cover): When a vehicle is destroyed, the full cost of replacement is not provided since depreciation is reduced from the claim amount. However, with Zero Depreciation coverage, the policyholder will get the entire cost of the repair or replacement offered. This is more appropriate for vehicles that are less than 5 years old.

Return to Invoice: Return to Invoice allows the policyholder to get the ex-showroom price or last invoice value if the vehicle is stolen or entirely destroyed. Return to invoice fills the difference between the IDV and the invoice value of the vehicle. Because of depreciation over time, the IDV is less than the invoice value.

Engine and gear-box protection: A comprehensive automobile insurance coverage does not cover engine damage unless it happens concurrently with the collision. The resulting engine damage will be covered by this add-on. For example, if a policyholder’s automobile is hauled violently, causing damage to the engine or transmission, this add-on will pay for the repairs.

Breakdown Assistance coverage: This add-on gives 24-hour roadside assistance for a vehicle up to 500 kilometres from the city. It covers scenarios such as a flat battery or tyre, small repairs, lodging perks, medical coordination, legal support, and towing.

Tyre Protect coverage: This add-on covers frequent circumstances in which just the tyre is damaged and not the automobile. It covers situations such as tyre explosions, bulges, or cuts that render the tyre unsuitable for usage.

Discounts offered by Digit Car Insurance:

NCB (No Claim Bonus) definition: An NCB is a premium discount offered to a policyholder in exchange for a claim-free policy period.

A no-claims bonus is a discount of 20-50 per cent that you obtain at the conclusion of your policy period by not filing any automobile accident claims under your car insurance policy.

This means you can’t obtain a no-claims bonus when you buy your first comprehensive auto insurance coverage; you can only get it when you renew your policy. When you renew your coverage, your no-claims bonus grows after each claim-free year.

For example, after the first year of no claims under your auto insurance coverage, you might earn a 20% NCB. This proportion will rise with each claim-free year, reaching 50% after 5 years – and then falling back to zero if you file a claim.

After reaching 50% in the fifth year, your NCB ceases to rise and remains constant. This is referred to as the No Claim Bonus Sunset Clause.

A No Claim Bonus is intended for the policyholder of an automobile insurance policy, regardless of the car. This implies that even if you change cars, your NCB remains with you.

If you opt to purchase a new automobile, you will be granted a new car insurance policy, but you will still be able to use the NCB you acquired on the previous car or policy.

Tips for Lowering Your Car Insurance Premium:

Increase your Voluntary Deductible – If you have had no claims for more than 4-5 years, or if you believe you can afford to pay more out of pocket during claims, you might consider increasing your Voluntary Deductible and lowering your auto insurance rate.

Maintain a Clean Driving Record – This may seem apparent, but it is critical. Aside from keeping you safe on the road, adhering to speed limits can help you prevent accidents and ensure you receive a No Claim Bonus each year.

Choose the Appropriate Add-ons – If you choose the right add-ons, additional covers may be really useful. As a result, select just the add-ons that you believe will be beneficial to you and your vehicle.
